Andrea Romano

2015 residency

Curated by: Maria Chiara Valacchi

Andrea Romano (1984) has always worked with materials and their meanings. He collects objects and physical signs that, like descriptive parts of a personal diary, mark his passage through time. This inventory process, which began in 2011, reveals the constant value in all his work. In a constant aesthetic friction he places the heirloom, intact or modified, uniting it with dissonant elements and thus modulating an ideal surrounding aura. A physical approach to sculpture and drawing, links him to the magic of discovery and to the deepening of those apparatuses that examine matter and its possible implications. The territory of Mandranova offers him unlimited and indeterminable possibilities, building his current experiential baggage. He applies a special ferrous pigment to a snail shell, accelerating the perception of its age with an alchemical reaction.
