Beat Zoderer

Irony, deception, imperfection and spontaneity – the exhibition «rosso non c’è» exemplifies the typical characteristics and peculiarities of Zoderer’s art. The title of the newly created series «Cubist Aquarelle» and «Mandranova Grid» and the artistic realisation of his works lead to the exhibition title, where contradictions, calculation, and randomness encourage the viewer to question conventional perspectives and perceptions.

Zoderer’s reference to cubism is clearly recognisable, disrupted by the application of watercolour technique. Expression and lightness are in a field of tension, creating depth and a feigned three-dimensionality. Several grids and layers of colour are superimposed, producing a spectrum of mixed colours that transition from spontaneity to randomness. The gaps and voids, which leave the first layer of colour visible, are an important part of the colour composition. The spectrum of mixed colours in the exhibited series is completely new in Zoderer’s work. This can be explained by the spontaneous creation process as well as the subtle influence of the artist’s surroundings, as these colours can be found in the nature, food and architecture in Sicily. This interesting aspect emerges in Beat Zoderer’s creative phase during his stay at Mandranova and highlights the uniqueness of his works in the exhibition «rosso non c’è»
